Among the most important works of Asplund is the Stockholm public library , built between 1924 and 1928, which represents the prototype example of Nordic classicism and the so-called Swedish grace movement. Our apartment hotel in Solna was named after the world-renowned architect, Gunnar Asplund. Compared to his designs for Skogskyrkogården cemetery and Stockholm Public Library, our yellow brick building isn’t his most famous work – but it’s emblematic of his style. Erik Gunnar Asplund (22 September 1885 – 20 October 1940) was a Swedish architect, mostly known as a key representative of Nordic Classicism of the 1920s, and during the last decade of his life as a major proponent of the modernist style which made its breakthrough in Sweden at the Stockholm International Exhibition (1930).Asplund was professor of architecture at the Royal Institute of Welcome to Stockholm Public Library. Stockholm Public Library was designed by Gunnar Asplund and opened in the spring of 1928. The library was the climax and finale to a neo-classical architectural era, and is based on the geometric shape of a cube encompassing a cylinder.
